Nongpoh, Meghalaya, April 5 (HBTV): The Food Safety department of Ri Bhoi in Meghalaya inspected a food manufacturing firm, KL Industries in Baridua on Thursday as part of food safety standards check.

Led by assistant commissioner of Food Safety and Designated Officer, DBS Mukhim, the inspection forms part of the department's routine checks on food manufacturing companies, aiming to ensure adherence to safety standards and to safeguard consumers’ welfare.

Addressing the media, Mukhim underscored the significance of the spot visit in enforcing stringent food safety protocols at manufacturing facilities. Despite compliance with the Food and Safety Standards Act 2006, companies such as KL Industries were reminded of the necessity to maintain laboratory reports, particularly regarding vitamin content.

Instructing companies to rectify such deficiencies in line with guidelines from the Food Safety and Standard Authority of India, Mukhim stressed the importance of protecting consumers from potential harm arising from improperly labeled or tested food products.

Mukhim reaffirmed the Food Safety Department's commitment to conducting regular inspections of all manufacturing companies to promote compliance with regulations. Non-compliant entities face penalties as stipulated by the Food and Safety Standards Act 2006.

Mukhim emphasized the requirement for distributors/wholesalers and manufacturing units to include the FSSAI license numbers on their invoices as mandated. Firms are urged to ensure their business partners obtain FSSAI licenses in compliance with regulations.
